Covering Cayuga County and Red Creek,
Cayuga County District
encompasses the area of the former Cayuga County Council.
Welcome to Cayuga County District
Named after the Cayuga Indian Tribe. A wandering nomadic
tribe, having traveled around the northeast, never having a permanent
settlement, the Cayuga Indians came to the area of New York in the
1500’s. They were known as fierce warriors, who forced the Huron and
Algonquians, (the original tribes of New York), out of this territory.
As the early colonists arrived in North America searching for a better
way of life, the Indians and colonists shared ideas and knowledge.

66th Annual Seward Day Celebration
Dr. Jeff Laduca, Cayuga District Chair
On Wednesday May 1st, local scouts celebrated the 66th annual Seward Day. The first Seward Day Observance occurred on May 1st 1948 and was the idea of the then Central District Commissioner, Harold Short. The concept of this day was to remind the scouts of the great statesmanship of one of Auburn’s most notable residents, William Seward. The day was intended to stand in contrast to May Day military celebrations that occurred in the former USSR. The day was intended to foster great patriotism and to show local youth that any man can make great contributions.
This year Mayor Michael Quill, Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Buddleman, and Seward House Facilities Manager Andrew Roblee all addressed a crowd of about 100 scouts, their families and local citizens. Rev. Leroy Kettinger also attended and announced those local scouts who had received their Religious Emblem Award for this year.
We will be doing the pledge at the Oswego raceway
